A new project to fix the built-in drainage door in the
cement overflow dam. This would allow the water level in the lake to be
controlled without using pumps. The pumps would be used only for dewatering
the work area. No one knew if the door could
be shut once opened and this would completely drain the lake.
An AquaDam® was used to form a horseshoe around the door. This allowed
inspection of the door without draining the lake. As it turned out,
a rubber seal needed to be replaced for the door to operate properly.
This is a view of the door from inside the spillway. A wheel placed
in the top of the overflow dam allowed the door to be raised or lowered.
By opening the door, much more water could be drained out of the lake
in a much shorter period of time.
