Flume Pipes: In-stream Water Impoundment
Saddle River, NJ (2003)

This application required that a pipe be run underneath the AquaDam® to allow the passage of fish. A 12" PVC pipe was used.

The AquaDam® is being unrolled slowly. Head pressure is developing inside between the two tubes of water which is needed when installing AquaDams® in moving water. Wrapping the rope around a tree provides greater leverage to prevent the AquaDam® from unrolling prematurely.

This picture shows the AquaDam® being rolled over the pipe. The ropes restrain it and keep it from unrolling until a sufficient amount of water has been pumped inside the AquaDam® to supply the needed internal pressure to counteract the stream flow.

The workers in the water have to make sure that the ropes do not move to the outside edge of the AquaDam®. The pipe looks like it is longer than it needs to be, but a 20' long pipe was not long enough. This pipe has a connection in the middle.
