This bridge pier footing was installed in 1922. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, it is long overdue for repair.

A 3' x by 100' AquaDam® being installed to divert stream flow around the pier. This picture was taken about halfway through the installation. Four workers held the AquaDam® back to maintain head pressure while another worker removed rocks and other obstructions.

According to Best Management Practices, stream diversions should be done during low flows. Notice water quality on the right side of the AquaDam®. This is what it's all about: keeping the water flow clean during all phases of the cofferdaming activities, including the installation and removal of the AquaDam®.  Workers must hold the AquaDam® back, not only to maintain pressure at the end where the workers are standing, but throughout the entire length of the unrolling during the installation process.
